About Dolls

I have owned several dolls that have had a string coming out of the back that makes the doll say 3-4 phrases when pulled. (Pee-Wee Herman is probably the most famous one)

With every single one, after 5+ years, the phrase comes out very fast and the voice is really high-pitched.

Does anyone know *specifically* why this happens?

I read this back 10 years ago in grade school and all I remember is that there were dolls in the attic that was more of a family to her than her own family. I also vaguely remember something about one of them breaking. (I could be wrong about that) It’s been bugging me cuz I can’t find it anywhere.
